July 1:
Today we are touring Olympia, site of the first Olympics over 2700 years ago. Our local guide takes us through the museum and through the site. We see where the Olympic flame is lit, the Temple of Zeus, the gymnasium and the stadium. Participants of the games had to be Greek and train for one year before traveling to the games. Only first place was awarded, but it was considered an honor to participate. We line up at the ancient starting block and Andy, Matt, Jack, Bruce and Adaline RUN the length of the stadium. Have I mentioned that it is brutally hot today? And no shade? |
We enjoy a family style group meal at Bacchus. There is so much food! We have Greek salad, tzatziki, egg plant, olives, rice, watermelon and honeydew.
